You see this beautiful lady? Her name is Bernice Pauahi Pākī Bishop. Born on December 19, 1831, she is the great-granddaughter of Kamehameha The Great, Hawaiʻi’s first king. She died on October 16, 1884 from breast cancer, but before she died she wrote a will. In her will she asked to “erect and maintain in the Hawaiian islands two schools, each for boarding and day scholars, one for boys and one for girls, to be known as, and to be called the Kamehameha Schools.” Since 1887, when the school was created by her husband Charles Reed Bishop, Kamehameha Schools has taught served the people of Hawaiʻi, the people of Pauahi. On Monday, December 19, 2011, it will mark the 125th anniversary of the Kamehameha Schools. I just wanted to create a post that showed how truly thankful I am for Pauahi. She has given me a great opportunity that not many kids get in their lifetime.
Mahalo Pauahi!!
